My family loved this cake so much that I had to make another one immediately after they finished the first. I cut the yeast back to 2 tsp to slow down the prove since it rose too quickly in my kitchen the first time. I also tented with foil at the 30 minute mark and baked for another ten minutes based on the advice from another reviewer. I will be making this every year! Thank you for this wonderful recipe!

Excellent recipe I’m from Mobile the Home of Mardi Gras and the home of zero good king cakes to buy! So I tried this one! It worked wonderfully. I used the proof feature on my oven to rise the dough. After I shaped it used the proof feature again and it looks beautiful! Started to get a little darker than I wanted and took longer than 30 minutes to reach 190 internal temp so I covered it with foil worked good! About an additional 15 minutes of cook time so 45 minutes for me. Need to work on making the ends just as fat as the rest of the cake and going to try filling next time of some sort but this is an excellent basic recipe! Thank you!

Great King’s Bread! I followed the instructions exactly, except I cheated (not that this was hard by any stretch but …) – – I bubbled the yeast (bread machine yeast) as instructed and then I put all the other ingredients to include the 5 cups of flour in a bread machine. I added the frothy yeast last and then selected the dough cycle. After 10 minutes I stopped the machine pulled out the perfectly kneaded dough and continued with the instructions. Super fast and super easy. The bread was a hit!

I’m Spanish, we usually eat this on the 6th of January, it’s been on our tradition for ages, I think even since Middle Ages and every family has its own version of this “roscón de reyes”, but this one is, by far, the wierdest version I’ve ever seen. We don’t roll it like that nor fill it with cinnamon, we just make it round shapped, with the hole in the centre, decorate ir with sugar rocks an dried fruits, and once it’s cold, we fill it with wiped cream or pastry cream, and it’s very traditional to hide inside a porcelain figure and a porcelain bean, who finds the figure is named “king” and who finds the bean pays for the cake. It’s fun to see international versions anyway, sure it tastes gorgeous! 😉
